Our speech pathologists follow the lead of the client and family, and quite often use a combination of approaches to address your goals.

Calla

BCi, BEd(sec), MSpPath

Principal speech pathologist and director​

Calla is the principal speech pathologist and founder of Rainbow Speech Pathology. She’s also Sandgate local and mum of a busy 1 year old and  neurodivergent 6 year old who both keep her on her toes. Calla is experienced in working with children and adults with disabilities from her years of experience working at Disability Services and Vision Australia. Calla has a Master of Speech Pathology from the University of Queensland a bachelor of education from QUT ( and a drama degree just for fun too). Calla is member of Speech Pathology Australia, AGOSCI and is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist. 

Calla is experienced in working with children and adults with communication & swallowing impairments and complex disabilities such as: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, William’s syndrome, Dravet Syndrome, Ohtahara Syndrome, Prader Willi, Smith Magenisis Syndrome, ATRX, Noonan’s, ADHD, hearing impairment and she has a special interest in vision impairments such as CVI.  Calla is passionate about early intervention and the power of interaction and engagement.  

In a previous life Calla was a high school drama and English teacher and taught English as a foreign language around the world. Calla now enjoys finding alternative and augmentative communication strategies for people who don’t have enough verbal language to express all their thoughts and feelings.  When Calla is not at work you will find her digging in the garden, camping or playing in the local parks or beaches of 4017 with her kids.

Bernadette

Practice Manager

Bernadette Caughey is our Practice Manager here at Rainbow Speech Pathology. Bernadette has 10 years of hands-on experience working in administration roles, both internationally and in Australia. Bernadette has always had a passion for working with people with disabilities. This passion began from supporting her sister who has an intellectual disability and severe receptive language disorder. Bernadette is patient and caring and loves supporting the families and therapists at Rainbow Speech Pathology.  

Camping, hiking, and spending time outdoors are some of Bernadette’s favourite things to do when she is not at work. Her chocolate and white border collie, Macy, is her little companion and sidekick, accompanying her on all her adventures. Keep an eye out for Macy; you might just be lucky enough to see her visiting Rainbow Speech Pathology now and then! Macy would love to become a therapy dog one day and bring joy to everyone’s hearts. Above all, Bernadette is passionate about bringing happiness to everyone she connects with at Rainbow Speech Pathology.  

Angelina

Bachelor of Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologist

Angie completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology through the Australian Catholic University and is now a certified practicing Speech Pathologist. Angie is passionate about providing culturally appropriate and evidence based services to support children in achieving meaningful goals. Angie can also understand Telugu and Hindi and speak a little too.

Angie enjoys supporting clients across all practice areas but has a particular interest in early intervention (0-4 year olds), gestalt language processing and feeding. Angie has completed training in Responsive Feeding, Hanen- It Takes Two to Talk and DIR Floortime. She is soon to complete her PODD training too! 

Outside of the clinic, Angie enjoys watching movies, spending time with her family and friends and helping out at church!

Jacinta

Bachelor of Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologist

Jacinta Quartermaine is experienced in working with children, adolescents and adults with disabilities. Jacinta has a Bachelor of Speech Pathology with first class honours from the University of Queensland. Jacinta is passionate about assisting individuals to gain the skills they need to live an independent life. She has an interest in helping clients build and strengthen connections with friends and family through finding a reliable form of communication.

Jacinta commenced her PhD researching the Participation experiences of young people with cerebral palsy in April 2020. As a PhD candidate Jacinta also teaches undergraduate speech pathologists at the University of Queensland. 

When Jacinta is not working, you’ll find her enjoying the outdoors with her husband and friends; going hiking, camping, or reading a book!

Samantha

Masters of Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologist

Sam completed her Master of Speech Pathology through Griffith University and is now a certified practising Speech Pathologist, however she previously completed studies in medical science and public health and has worked in school and University laboratories, health education/promotion and as a Therapy Assistant at RSP. Sam loves working with people with disabilities across the lifespan, and particularly enjoys working with Autistic clients using a neurodiversity affirming approach. Sam enjoys supporting clients across all practice areas but has a particular interest in speech sound disorders, literacy, language and AAC. Sam has also completed training in DIR Floortime, neurodiversity affirming therapy, gestalt language development, PODD, Sounds Write and Childhood Apraxia of Speech. 

Sam loves animals, nature, music and food. Sam spends her free time reading in her hammock, at the beach, jigsaw puzzling, playing guitar, and cuddling her dog Maxi.  

Katie

Master of Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologist

Katie holds a Master of Speech Pathology from Griffith University. Prior to becoming a speech pathologist, Katie worked in communication and engagement roles for government projects across Brisbane, Melbourne and London. Katie’s career change to speech pathology was sparked by a desire to harness her love of communication and language while working more directly with people.

Katie enjoys working with clients across the lifespan. She is still learning which practice areas of speech pathology she enjoys, but is drawn to language, speech and fluency. Katie has completed training in DIR Floortime and PODD.

When Katie isn’t studying or working, you’ll find her walking her miniature schnauzer dog Henry around the Sandgate area.

How to book your appointment

Rainbow Speech Pathology is a clinic based service in shop 4-6/ 16 Brighton road Sandgate down the Sandgate Arcade. We understand that people communicate best in places where they are most comfortable. We can visit clients at home, school and kindergarten within a 10km radius of Sandgate, along with telehealth services via Zoom and Microsoft teams to any location.
